Sat. Matinée at 2.30pm

Next up for EBOS is Gypsy: A Musical Fable, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents.

The show is loosely based on the memoirs of the now legendary striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, and focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate show business mother." It follows the dreams and struggles of Rose to raise her two daughters June and Louise from young girls to women as they perform onstage up and down the country and casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life during the great depression and the death of vaudeville.

Gypsy is frequently considered one of the crowning achievements of the mid-twentieth century's conventional musical theatre, and to this day is still referred to as the greatest American musical of all time by numerous writers and critics alike, and in Mama Rose, we have one of the few truly complex characters musical theatre has to offer.

This is incredibly personal and intimate story that delivers on an epic scale containing numerous songs that became popular standards, including Everything's Coming Up Roses, Together (Wherever We Go), Let Me Entertain You, All I Need is the Girl, Rose's Turn and the showstopping You Gotta Get a Gimmick.
